Schroeder Premieres
Ferruccio Busoni
Kultaselle Variations, BV 237 (1889)

Like Alwin Schroeder, pianist and composer Ferruccio Busoni had arrived in Boston in the fall of 1891, where Busoni had been appointed a piano instructor at the New England Conservatory. The Kultaselle Variations on a Finnish folk song had been composed while Busoni was teaching in Helsinki. Schroeder and Busoni's performance of the work on Schroeder's April 8, 1892 Boston recital in a likely US premiere. As with the Brahms Op. 99 sonata and the Bruch Canzone, Schroeder seems to have given no further performances of these variations.
